Andhra school incident: Class 6 girl injured as teacher strikes her with lunch bag

A disturbing case of corporal punishment has been reported from Punganur in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, where a Class 6 girl sustained a skull fracture. The student, Sathvika Nagasri, was allegedly hit on the head by her Hindi teacher, Saleema Basha, using a school bag that contained a steel lunch box.
Police said the teacher struck the child in anger after she indulged in some mischief during class. Initially, the girl’s mother—herself a Science teacher at the same school—did not grasp the severity of the injury.
When Sathvika later complained of intense headaches and dizziness, she was taken to multiple hospitals before being admitted to a private facility in Bengaluru. A CT scan confirmed that she had suffered a skull fracture.
The family has since filed a complaint against both the teacher and the school principal. Punganur police have registered a case and begun inquiries into the incident.
In a separate incident in Andhra Pradesh, another student was reportedly injured due to a teacher’s assault. A Class 8 boy from Sri Tanush School in Visakhapatnam’s Madhuravada area suffered multiple fractures in his arm after his Social Sciences teacher, identified as Mohan, allegedly smashed an iron table onto him. Medical reports confirmed the student’s arm was broken in three places.
